Walk for Possibility

Walk for Possibility

About This Campaign

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. – Dr. Seuss

Move your feet in the right direction! Join the first-ever 11K Walk for Possibility on Thursday March 3, 2016 from 8am to noon, taking you through Vancouver to the United Way offices in Burnaby. The walk will benefit United Way of the Lower Mainland and your agency.

Half the funds you raise will benefit your team's agency, and the other half will go to United Way of the Lower Mainland to support newcomers in our community.

We look forward to walking together!

The event will begin at Robert Lee YMCA with registration and event kick off, followed by optional designated stopping points at the following United Way funded agencies:

United Way of the Lower Mainland

Campaign to Support United Way of the Lower Mainland

United Way has been helping people in the Lower Mainland for over 86 years. United Way funds 146 local organizations that provide over 318 programs and services in 26 communities in the Lower Mainland.  With your help, United Way puts together the right resources and people to move  families from poverty to possibility, help kids be all they can be, and build strong communities for all.

Walk for Possibility – Thursday March 3, 2016

8-8:30am registration at Robert Lee YMCA, 955 Burrard St.

8:30am Walk to United Way begins

11:00-1pm Wrap up event at United Way

Where does the event begin? The walk will begin with registration from 8am-8:30am at the Robert Lee YMCA at 955 Burrard St Vancouver, BC. We encourage all participants to attend the registration, even if you are not able to do the entire walk.

What if I cannot attend the event but still want to fundraise for my team? You are welcome to fundraise for the event and to support your team in their fundraising efforts.

What if I cannot walk the full 11KM? You are encouraged to begin with registration at YMCA and then walk for as long as you are able to. There are 3 designated stopping points along the way where you can take a break, use washroom facilities or choose to end your walk there if you would like.

Will there be transit provided? Unfortunately, transit will not be provided before or after the walk. We encourage attendees to carpool, use transit and consider leaving a vehicle at the end of the walk route (United Way of the Lower Mainland 4543 Canada Way, Burnaby) where there is ample parking.

Is there food onsite? There will be light refreshments provided at United Way of the Lower Mainland beginning at approximately 11am and will be available until all walkers have arrived at United Way.

What if it rains? This event will happen rain or shine, so be sure to dress for the weather.

What should I wear? Be sure to dress for the weather! Teams are encouraged to to show your spirit by wearing your agency’s t-shirts, or hats, capes, use your imagination! For safety reasons, please ensure that the costumes will not interfere with your vision or ability to move.

How many people can be on a team? There is no limit to the number of team members.

Where does the money go? All funds raised will be divided equally between your team’s agency and United Way of the Lower Mainland which works with our agency partners to help move families from poverty to possibility, help kids be all they can be and build stronger communities for all. Will people who sponsor me get a tax receipt for making a donation? Will you accept offline donations made by cash or cheque? Tax receipts will be sent to everyone who makes a donation including individual team members, friends, family and colleagues who sponsor you as well. Receipts will be sent approximately 4 weeks after an online donation is made. Offline donations of cash and cheque will be accepted during registration at the YMCA on Thursday March 3 from 8-8:30am. Be sure to include the donor's full name, email and mailing address if they want to receive a tax receipt for their donation.
